The Gilligan Wipe (or How to Avoid an Argument)

That last post was about saying no to things, and that can lead to an argument.

One of the easiest ways to avoid this is by using a Gilligan Wipe, taught to me by Dyna Moe.

The Skipper from Gilligan’s Island says, “There is NO WAY you’re gonna get me on that motorcycle!” There’s a wipe and a sound effect and suddenly he’s riding the motorcycle, all screaming and terrified, and the very image in my brains makes me laugh.

It saves the audience a seven-minute negotiation scene and gives ‘em what they want… the Skipper’s riding a motorcycle!

You’re allowed to do this anywhere… even if you’re Donald Duck.

Another way to not argue: just don’t!

Some time I’ll write about How to Argue and Make it Terrific (AKA 90% of Kirk-and-Pam scenes).
